Beach Chalet Letting Policy Survey

The council would like to hear your views on the Brighton & Hove beach chalet letting policy.

What are we trying to achieve?

Beach chalets are a very popular and much loved part of Brighton & Hove's seafront. Demand for the chalets is very high - so much so that the waiting lists the Council holds were closed in 2003.

We're keen to give as many people as possible the chance to enjoy the chalets, but we also know how much people who already have access to chalets enjoy using them. One solution would be to build more. Unfortunately, resources to do this are very limited.

The Council would really appreciate a few moments of your time to fill in a short and simple questionnaire about these issues.

Current Policy

There are 105 beach chalets of brick built construction in various locations along the seafront in Hove, Madeira Drive, Ovingdean, Rottingdean and Saltdean.

They are currently let to existing tenants on a tenancy for an indefinite period of time and subject to an annual rent. Two months notice to terminate the tenancy can be given by either party at any time. A recent change now means that any new tenancies will be granted for a fixed term of no longer than five years to Brighton & Hove residents only.

The event is not currently available for consultation.
